Tokyo stocks close sharply higher

TOKYO, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed sharply higher on Tuesday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average surged 381.26 points, or 2.98 percent, from Friday to 13,184.96.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange jumped 35.31 points, or 2.82 percent, to 1,287.74.
Financial markets were closed Monday for a national holiday in Japan.
