Bangladesh feels proud of China to host Olympic Games

DHAKA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- General Secretary of Bangladesh-China People's Friendship Association S.A. Sikder said here Wednesday that Bangladesh feels proud of China to host the Olympic Games.

"As a neighboring and friendly country of China, we are very glad that China will host Olympics," said Sikder in an exclusive interview with Xinhua.

Sikder was invited to visit China in April this year and visited some Olympic stadiums.

"It is a great thing by the Chinese government and the Chinese people to construct such marvelous stadiums," he said.

Sikder said during his 10-day visit to China, he felt strongly the Olympic atmosphere as what he saw were Olympic constructions and posters, and what he heard were the topics relating to Olympics.

Sikder said the Chinese government successfully solved the Tibet unrest incident and successfully organized the relief work after the powerful earthquake in Sichuan province.

"So I believe China will host the Olympics successfully, it is undoubtful," he said.

Sikder made a visit to China in July 2006, after one and a half years, he found many changes in China.

"There were so many changes, the changes in China should be counted by day, not by year," he said.

Sikder said he hopes the Beijing Olympics will be successful, and hopes China will win more medals in the Olympics.

"The success of Olympics not only belongs to China, but to the whole Asia as well as the world," he said.

Bangladesh-China People's Association was established in 1986.
