Chinese president makes proposal on regional peace, common prosperity among SCO members

DUSHANBE, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao, in a keynote address on Thursday to the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tajik capital Dushanbe, made a five-point proposal for joint efforts to develop lasting peace, common prosperity and regional harmony.

The five-point proposal includes strengthening strategic consultation and political mutual trust; development of closer security cooperation and maintenance of regional peace; deepening economic cooperation, and realizing a mutually beneficial and all-win situation; promoting humanitarian cooperation, and establishing links of friendship; and implementing principles of opening up, and jointly striving for regional harmony.

DUSHANBE, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Leaders from member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) gathered in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe Thursday for a summit, which will focus on security, economic and cultural cooperation among the member states.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and other leaders attending the summit will exchange views on current major international and regional issues and discuss how to resolutely fight the three forces of terrorism, extremism and separatism through intensive coordination, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry officials.
