6.1-Magnitude quake jolts Sichuan Province

PANZHIHUA, SICHUAN, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale hit Panzhihua City in southwestern China's Sichuan Province on Saturday afternoon.

The quake struck at 4:30 p.m. Saturday (Beijing time). The epicenter was about 50 km southeast of the city's downtown area, at 26.2 degrees north latitude and 101.9 degrees east longitude with a depth of 10 km, the National Seismograph Network Center said.
