A four-year-old girl's dismembered body was found in her neighbor's fridge in a slum near Guangzhou on the weekend, local media reported Monday.
The 35-year-old neighbor, surnamed Zhang, a native of Sichuan, has been arrested in connection with the murder.
The family of 4-year-old Li Lingli reported her missing on Friday, claiming they had left Li with a neighbor before leaving for work that day, and on their return could not find her, the Guangzhou Daily reported.
Late Friday, Liu Shuanglian, the victim's grandmother, spotted blood outside's Zhang's door and called the police.
The suspect, who works in a clothes factory, was arrested when the police broke into his one-room cottage in the Nancun township of Panyu, a Guangzhou suburb, and found Li's dismembered body inside his fridge.
The police have also recovered bundles of clothes of women and children from Zhang's house, which has now been sealed by the village supervisor.
Though the police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder, the newspaper quoted Zhang's neighbors as saying: "He (Zhang) said that he found human flesh rather delicious once when he was watching a violent movie."
Zhang's neighbors described him as a man with "a peculiar obsession for women's clothing".
"Zhang once walked down the tenant's area dressed like a woman," a neighbor was quoted as having said.
Zhang often waved around a long and sharp blade outside his flat and even made strange noises in the middle of the night, the Guangzhou-based Information Times quoted neighbors as saying.
Zhang was so unpopular in the neighborhood that he was asked to leave the area at least three times in the last 10 years, according to the paper.
