Senior CPC official hopes China and Japan to enhance inter-party exchanges

TOKYO, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said here Tuesday that China and Japan should pay high attention to and deepen communication among political parties of the two countries.

Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended a ceremony to sign a memorandum for strengthening exchanges and cooperation of ruling parties between China and Japan. Also attending the ceremony were Hiroyuki Hosoda, secretary-general of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Kazuo Kitagawa, secretary-general of New Komeito.

Li said after the ceremony that the exchanges among political parties, those among ruling parties in particular, constituted an important part of Sino-Japanese relations. Such exchanges "have played an important role in advancing the healthy and steady growth of bilateral ties and enhancing mutual understanding and trust of the two peoples," he said.

History has proven that the more important period for bilateral ties, the more unique and important role that inter-party exchanges can play.

On the inking of the memorandum, Li said that the move marks that the inter-party exchanges have become a mechanism, providing a stable and convenient channel for future political dialogue and policy collaboration.

"It also builds up a solid and important bridge for bilateral cooperation in various fields," he said.

Hosoda Hiroyuki and Kitagawa Kazuo said that the ruling parties of the two countries shouldered special responsibility for pushing forward bilateral ties. The two ruling parties of Japan are willing to make concerted efforts along with CPC for supporting various forms of non-governmental contacts and implementing the consensus reached between the leadership of the two countries.

"We will explore new areas for the mutually beneficial cooperation and offer a favorable political and social environment for uplifting the bilateral ties," they said.

Li is the highest-ranking official who visits Japan this year. Besides Prime Minister Aso, he also met with leaders of political parties and senior executives of the Japanese business community.
