LONDON, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso here on Thursday to discuss ties between the two Asian neighbors and major world and regional issues.

Hu and Aso are meeting on the sidelines of a Group of 20 summit on the financial crisis in London.

They also met last November at the Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Lima, Peru.

The development of China-Japan relations is gaining momentum thanks to the efforts by both sides.

During Hu's visit to Japan last year, the two nations reached broad consensus on promoting China-Japan strategic relations of mutual benefit in an all-round way.
