The Xinchang Gas Field is on fire in Deyang City, southwest China's Sichuan Province, on May 20, 2009. Firefighters on Wednesday were still trying to contain a huge fire engulfing a gas well in Sichuan Province that ignited Tuesday evening. A gas outburst at a well belonging to the Xinchang Gas Field in Deyang City at 7 p.m. Tuesday, and triggered a fire up to 10 meters high as of Wednesday noon. DEYANG, Sichuan, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Firefighters on Wednesday were still trying to contain a huge fire engulfing a gas well in Sichuan Province that ignited Tuesday evening.
A gas outburst at a well belonging to the Xinchang Gas Field in Deyang City at 7 p.m. Tuesday, triggered a fire up to 10 meters high as of Wednesday noon.
Residents around the area have been evacuated and firefighters have cordoned off the site, which is circled by brick walls.
The newly-built well was not yet operational.
