BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- China-based members of the China-Russia Friendship Committee for Peace and Development (CRFCPD) held a meeting here Tuesday, discussing the next step of work in promoting Sino-Russian non-governmental exchanges.
The members discussed a near future plan for the China side in the non-governmental communication with Russia, in fields such as cultural, academic and youth exchanges.
Relevant preparation work for the upcoming eighth plenary session of the Committee in November was also on the agenda of the meeting.
Hua Jianmin, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, hailed the committee made great contribution to cementing the social foundation for the Sino-Russian ties.
The committee fulfilled itself as a channel of communication between the two peoples, said Hua, who is also chairman of China's side of the Committee.
Gathering almost 50 Chinese specialists and officials in several fields, the Committee was established in 1997 under the proposal of the two countries' heads of state. And it is aimed at deepening understanding and friendship and promoting good neighborly cooperation between China and Russia.
