HARBIN, June 27 (Xinhua) -- A gas explosion has been confirmed as the cause of a cafeteria blast Wednesday morning, injuring 13 people, in northeast China's Heilongjiang province, local authorities said.

A further investigation is still underway as to whether a gas pipeline leak or a gas container caused the blast at 6:50 a.m. in Phoenix Town community of Shuangcheng city, according to the city government.

So far, 13 injured people have been sent to hospital. Two of them were in critical condition and have been transferred to a hospital in the provincial capital Harbin.

The explosion caused the floorslab of the cafeteria to collapse and broke windows of nearby buildings.
