Plane crew and passengers thwarted a hijack attempt in China's Xinjiang on Friday, Xinhua reported.

Six terrorists attempted to hijack Flight GS7554 departing from Xinjiang's Hotan airport to its capital city Urumqi on Friday. The plane crew, with passengers' help, subdued them.

The crew and some of the passengers are slightly injured in the process. The plane then flew back to Hotan and landed safely.

Police detained the six men after landing. Further investigation is underway.
