URUMQI, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Two people have been reported dead and one person remains missing following a rain-triggered flood that hit northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region Sunday, local authorities said.

The flood, triggered by rainstorms, began at 2 p.m. Saturday in Kuqa county, with several local ranches flooded as of 7 p.m., a county official said.

An employee of the Qiuci Mining Company, as well as the employee's child, drowned in floodwaters that hit the company's dormitories. Their bodies were recovered after the flood faded.

An employee of the Erbatai Ranch went missing after the floodwaters hit the ranch. A search for the employee is under way.
