1 child killed, 8 injured in east China crash

JINAN, July 17 (Xinhua) -- A van carrying 10 children crashed with a sedan Tuesday afternoon in east China's Shandong province, leaving one of them dead and eight others injured, the local government said.

The tragedy happened at 5 p.m. in the Rencheng district of Jining city when a Jinbei van collided with a Toyota sedan at a road crossing, said an official with the district government.

One child died after being sent to a local hospital. The injured, including three seriously, were in stable condition, said the official.

The age bracket of the children remains unknown and the local government is probing the cause of the accident.
