”China’s first aircraft carrier, known as the Varyag, should be named after the Diaoyu Islands, to assert China's territorial sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands,” said Luo Yuan, deputy secretary-general of the China Society of Military Science, at a seminar on “the Diaoyu Islands issues” in Beijing on August 19, 2012.

South Korea’s Dokdo class amphibious assault ship is named after Dokdo Islets which have been disputed between Japan and South Korea. Dokdo class amphibious assault ship has been sent to visit foreign countries to assert South Korea’s territorial sovereignty over Dokdo Islets, Luo added.

China’s first aircraft carrier should also be named after the Diaoyu Islands to stress China’s territorial sovereignty over the Diaoyu islands, Luo suggested.

Japan detained 14 Chinese people from Hong Kong, who landed on the island on August 15 to claim Chinese sovereignty over the islands.

Japanese rightists landed on the Diaoyu Islands on August 19, which China strongly opposes. China urged Japan to put an end to its provocative actions upon the Diaoyu Islands.
