Hu Jintao declares successful close of the 18th CPC National Congress

The 18th National Congress of Communist party of China (CPC) convened on Nov.8 wrapped up Wednesday (Nov. 14). President Hu Jintao declared the successful close of the Party Congress.

The Congress underscored at its closing ceremony that the strength of the CPC depends on its centralization and unification, which is also the basic guarantee to realize the goals of economic and social development, national unity and progress and the country’s long-term peace and stability.

The Congress also stressed that it must be a relentless campaign to combat corruption and build a clean government, and the alarm must always sound against corruption and erosion, in an effort to build up a clean and upright echelon of cadres, a clean government and a clear and bright political landscape.

Nearly 50 percent of CPC Central Committee members are newcomers

Nearly 50 percent of the new Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) are newcomers, indicating that the CPC, with 91 years of history and more than 82 million members, has again completed its central leadership transition.

Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang were elected Wednesday morning into the new CPC Central Committee.

Hu Jintao, 69, Wu Bangguo, 71, Wen Jiabao, 70, Jia Qinglin, 72, Li Changchun, 68, He Guoqiang, 69, Zhou Yongkang, 69, are not in the new Central Committee. They were members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 17th CPC Central Committee.

Wang Qishan, Liu Yunshan, Liu Yandong, Li Yuanchao, Wang Yang, Zhang Gaoli, Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng, all members of the Political Bureau of the 17th CPC Central Committee, have been elected into the 18th CPC Central Committee, while Wang Gang, Wang Lequan, Wang Zhaoguo, Hui Liangyu, Liu Qi, Xu Caihou and Guo Boxiong, all members of the Political Bureau of the 17th CPC Central Committee, are not in the new Central Committee.

Delegates to the 18th CPC National Congress held that the overall structure of the new CPC Central Committee is reasonable and the members have fine ethical and political quality, outstanding work performance and popular public support.
