Xi Jinping elected general secretary of CPC Central Committee

Xi Jinping was elected general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of CPC Central Military Commission at the first plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee on Thursday morning.

Other members of the newly elected Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 18th CPC Central Committee are Li Keqiang, Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Liu Yunshan, Wang Qishan, and Zhang Gaoli.

Wang Qishan was elected secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Thursday.

Fan Changlong and Xu Qiliang were named vice chairmen of the CPC Central Military Commission.
