Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), addressed the plenary session of the CPC's disciplinary watchdog on Jan 22.
In his speech Xi hammered home the importance of combating departmental protectionism and selfishness which entail the harmful mindset of overt compliance with covert defiance.
Orders and bans from the central government must be fully implemented, with no arbitrary alteration or distortion allowed in carrying out the policies, Xi stressed.
Equally important, an iron fist was hailed in Xi’s speech in the nationwide anti-graft campaign in a bid to overhaul the inner-Party discipline.
Both the so-called big-guns and the minnows, once breaking the laws or becoming corrupted, must be mercilessly penalized in accordance with the relevant law, Xi stated.
Xi also said the combat corruption, it is desirable to strengthen the restriction and supervision on power wielding, to tame power within the confines of system, and to build up a mechanism for disciplinary actions and penalties against corruption so as to prevent and punish crimes of the kind.
Touching on the transformation of work style, which he stressed earlier this year, Xi said whether the officials’ work style has changed for better is only assessed by the people, whose satisfaction is the only yardstick.
Transformation of work style must start well and end well, and go with both progress and success. It should be put under the supervision of both the Party and the people, and in particular, the people should be convinced seeing tangible results and substantial changes.
Xi Jinping delivers speech on disciplinary watchdog meeting
Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), vowed to unswervingly fight against corruption during a CPC disciplinary watchdog meeting on Tuesday.
Xi said anti-corruption efforts must be consistent and will never slacken.
"We must have the resolution to fight every corrupt phenomenon, punish every corrupt official and constantly eradicate the soil which breeds corruption, so as to earn people's trust with actual results," he said.
Xi made the vow during a speech at a plenary meeting of the CPC's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).
Xi also stressed in his speech to fight corruption in a comprehensive way, address both its symptoms and root cause and combine punishment with prevention, with the emphasis on prevention.
He urged those who attended the meeting to unswervingly push forward the building of clean governance and the anti-corruption war.
"Power should be reined within the cage of regulations," said Xi as he ordered enhanced restraint and supervision on the use of power.
A disciplinary, prevention and guarantee mechanism should be set up to ensure that people do not dare to, are not able to or can not easily commit corruption, Xi said.
"We must not relax the use of penalties if we want to rule Party members strictly," he said.
Li Keqiang, Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Liu Yunshan and Zhang Gaoli, members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, were present at the meeting.
Wang Qishan, secretary of the CCDI and also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, presided over Tuesday's meeting.
The CCDI's plenary session opened on Monday.
Xi Jinping instructs to wipe out extravagance at public funds
General Secretary Xi Jinping recently made written instructions for a report in Xinhua’s internal reference, calling for a strict implementation of various economy measures and a complete eradication of extravagance at public expense, in an effort to popularize the conception of “practise economy and combat waste”, and make it a common sense in the whole society.
General Office of the Central Committee of the CPC has accordingly issued the notice demanding regions all across China to implement Xi’s important instructions.
