A newborn baby was rescued from toilet sewer of the girls’ dormitory at a college in Linyi, Shandong province in the morning of September 14.

The firefighting department of Feixian County, Linyi city received a call at 5:21 am on September 14, saying that baby cries could be heard from the sewer of a public restroom in the dormitory building of female college students.

The baby, a girl just born, was stuck about 1.2 meter below the toilet in the sewer, which was an iron casting pipe with a diameter of less than 20 cm. The baby kept crying, her head was covered with blood, sewage and used toilet paper.

With the instructions of doctors, the firefighters firstly removed the toilet paper off the baby’s head so that she could breathe easier. They also prepared oxygen bottles for the baby girl in case the oxygen in the sewer ran out.

The fire fighters then divided into two groups for the rescue, with one group staying at the toilet of the fourth floor, where the baby fell into the sewer, and the other trying to disassemble the sewer pipe in the floor underneath.

After three hours’ effort, the baby was finally rescued out of the sewer and sent to the hospital. She is now in a stable condition.

It is learned that the mother of the baby was a female student in the college, who was giving birth to the baby in the toilet room when it slipped into the sewer.

Further investigation is underway.
