The collapse occurred around 6 am on May 2, when a car happened to be passing. Fortunately, nobody was injured as the car passed with only tiny jolts.

The section of the express way had been closed for safety reasons by 9 am on May 2.

“The road is only several months old, and could not even stand in the rain. What a trash!” said Mr. Liu, who passed by the crater.

It is reported that the road was put in use since November, 2014. The builders said the collapse might have been caused by illegal construction of sewage pipes undergrounds, which could damage the roadbed.

Investigation is underway.
