A boy was being locked in a BMW car for about an hour before he was rescued out, since his mother refused to break the window glass of the car, a bbs thread at Yiwu city, Zhejiang province reported yesterday.

A woman who drove BMW left her son in the car, said the thread. She first called the locksmith, who told her to break the window, but she didn’t agree. Later the police and firefighters came one after another. But at last it was after a guy broke the window that the boy was rescued out.

The incident was confirmed at the fire department of Yiwu city. The firefighters were called around 6:40 pm on July 11 about a child getting trapped in the car. When they arrived, they saw a boy of two or three years old in the driver’s seat crying with both hands on the window glass. Two locksmiths were trying to open the door and the car was surrounded by onlookers.

The firefighters suggested breaking the window glass immediately. However, the mother of the child said that she wanted to wait and that the locksmiths perhaps would sort it out.

Five minutes later, when the door remained locked, the firefighters talked to the mother about breaking the glass again, but she insisted on waiting for the locksmiths.

Criticism arose among the onlookers that the mother was being mean to the child: Despite the fact that a window glass of a BMW car was expensive, it was your own child’s life after all.

“The mother still didn’t approve, but then we saw the kid slowly lying in the seat, maybe feeling sick. So we just broke the window, and the mother didn’t say no,” said one of the firefighters.

The child was brought out as soon as the firefighters broke the window glass. He kept crying perhaps due to the fright.

It is learned that the parents went shopping nearby, leaving the toddler alone in the car. The boy plucked the key out and flung it to the back, thus locking himself in the car.

The father looked more worried than the mother. He tried to break the window with a brick but didn’t succeed. They then called the locksmiths and after that, the police and firefighters.

When the child was brought out, he had already been trapped in the car for over 1 hour. It was lucky that the weather wasn’t too hot due to the influence of typhoons, the rescuers said.

Leaving a child alone in car could be fatally dangerous in the summer, the fire department reminded. With the outdoor temperature being 35 degrees centigrade, the in-car temperature could rise to 65 degrees in 15 minutes, which could kill a child who stays in the car for half an hour.
