Wang Yan, 29, used to be a businessman running a steel factory in Changchun, capital city of Jilin province. As he established a rescue base and saved over a thousand dogs from the butcher’s, he was gradually stripped to dire poverty.

“My pet dog went missing in 2012. I couldn’t find him anywhere, so some of my friends suggested me to try my luck at the butcher’s, ” Wang talked about how he had started rescuing dogs.

He didn’t find his dog at the slaughter house, but saw brutal scenes of dog killing. Since then, Wang begun buying dogs from the butchers.

As he collected more dogs, he emptied his factory building and founded the “Changchun Animal Rescue Base”.

“There are 215 dogs at the base now, mostly came from the slaughter houses, saved by volunteers and brought here,” Wang introduced, “We used to home over 1,000 dogs, many have been adopted later.”

Wang’s biggest headache now is the coming winter. The dogs need more shelter. In this northeastern province of Jilin, the dogs wouldn’t be able to suffer from the low temperatures without a proper shelter.

“I don’t accept money. I only hope that some architecture materials could be donated so that I would be able to build a house for the dogs,” Wang said.
