BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- The inter-connectedness of the world means governments must work together on the development of COVID-19 vaccines, a recent editorial of the South China Morning Post said.

China has promised that once it produces an effective vaccine against the noval coronavirus, it will be for the "global public good," but Washington continues to smear Chinese achievements, the article said.

"Downplaying or trying to harm the achievements of others is of no benefit; no nation can consider itself free of the threat unless there is cooperation," the editorial noted.

China signed an agreement with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, officially joining COVAX on Oct. 8.

A total of 184 countries and economies have now joined COVAX, an international initiative aimed at ensuring equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines across the world, according to World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. Enditem
