ASHGABAT, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- China and Turkmenistan agreed here Sunday to promote bilateral cooperation in such fields as trade, energy, telecommunication, transportation, textile and agriculture. The agreement was reached in talks between visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov. Wen said that China is satisfied with the smooth development of bilateral ties and the favorable results they have yielded since the two nations forged diplomatic relations 15 years ago. The Chinese premier noted that both countries have attached great importance to bilateral relations of good neighborliness and friendly cooperation, proceeding from the strategic perspective of bringing benefits to the two peoples, maintaining stability and promoting joint development in the region. The two countries have all along regarded each other as a reliable friend and partner and supported each other on issues of their major concerns, Wen added. He spoke highly of Turkmenistan's long-term adherence to the one-China policy and the country's support for China on the issues of Taiwan and Tibet and in the combat against "Eastern Turkistan" terrorist group. China would continue its support for Turkmenistan to safeguard its national sovereignty, and help the country to promote economic development, Wen said. The Chinese premier also put forward a four-point proposal on further improving Sino-Turkmenistan relations. The two countries should intensify exchange and cooperation and strengthen mutual trust, said Wen. He suggested that the two countries keep close exchange and cooperation at various levels and continue to show understanding and provide support to each other on major issues that bear on their core interests and constitute their common concern. Wen said the two countries should deepen their economic and trade cooperation for mutual benefit and win-win results, and he called for the early start of the mechanism of a mixed economic and trade commission so as to make overall planning for bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Both countries should give full play to their advantages and expand cooperation in such fields as economy and trade, energy, telecommunication, transportation, textile and agriculture, he said, noting that efforts should be made to ensure the success of the agreed joint projects and raise the overall level of bilateral economic and trade ties to a new height. Wen also suggested that the two nations expand humanities exchange and deepen their traditional friendship. More cultural festivals and art exhibits should be held to boost exchanges in education and sports, especially between the young generation of the two countries. He also maintained that the two nations should strengthen cooperation on regional security issues by implementing in real earnest the agreement on combating the Three Evil Forces (terrorism, extremism and separatism) so as to promote peace, stability and harmony in the region. Calling Turkmenistan an important nation in central Asia, Wen said China appreciates the country's policy of permanent neutrality, adding that China favors the establishment of a U.N. Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. Hailing the development of their bilateral ties, Berdymukhamedov said Turkmenistan and China share identical or similar views on many significant issues, noting that the bilateral cooperation would serve the fundamental interests of the two peoples as well as the maintenance of regional peace and stability. The Turkmen side will work closely with its Chinese partners on the implementation of a natural gas pipeline project, the president said. China and Turkmenistan signed the natural gas supply contract in July during Berdymukhamedov's visit to China. Under the contract, China National Petroleum Corporation, the largest Chinese oil producer, will import from Turkmenistan 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually through the planned Central Asia Gas Pipeline for 30 years. The Turkmen president also reiterated the one-China policy that his government has unswervingly upheld and pledged joint efforts with the Chinese side to combat the "Three Evil Forces". Invited by Berdymukhamedov, Wen arrived in Ashgabat on Saturday for an official visit, which coincides with the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations. It is the second leg of Wen's four-nation trip which has taken him to Uzbekistan. He is also scheduled to visit Belarus and Russia.
