Chinese premier meets top Turkmen legislator

ASHGABAT, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met here Sunday with Turkmenistan's Majlis (Assembly) Chairman Akdzha Nurberdyeva on bilateral ties and cooperation.

Wen said Sino-Turkmen relations are developing steadily and cooperation in various fields have achieved remarkable accomplishments.

Wen said that both sides are satisfied with the ongoing development of bilateral relations and are confident about their cooperation in the future. The two countries have agreed to attach greater importance to bilateral relations and continue to broaden exchanges and cooperation in political, economic, humanity and other fields by improving mechanism and planning on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, the Chinese premier added.

Noting that legislative bodies play a vital role in promoting friendship between peoples, Wen expressed hope that the national legislatures of the two countries will further their cooperation in a bid to promote the long-term steady development of relations between the two countries.

On her part, Nurberdyeva said both Turkmenistan and China are committed to boosting economic development and improving people's welfare, and the sustained growth of bilateral ties and the ever-closer cooperation between the two countries will bring tremendous benefit to the two peoples.

The Turkmen assembly will strengthen its exchanges with China's National People's Congress and make greater contribution to the development of bilateral relations, she added.

Invited by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, Wen arrived in Ashgabat on Saturday for an official visit, which coincides with the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

It was the second leg of Wen's four-nation trip which has taken him to Uzbekistan. He is also scheduled to visit Belarus and Russia.
