BEIJING, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo on Friday urged intensification of bilateral exchanges and increased mutual understanding between China and Slovenia.

The two countries have always supported each other on significant issues of their key concerns and the bilateral relations have already moved into a track of comprehensive development, Wu said.

In a meeting with visiting Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa,Wu said China appreciates the support from Slovenia on issues such as Taiwan and respects the path that Slovenian people choose to develop their country.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), highlighted the strong complementarity of the two economies, saying that two sides should boost cooperation especially among small and medium-sized businesses.

The NPC is willing to step up cooperation with the Slovenian Parliament, Wu said, suggesting the two sides work closely to promote relations.

Jansa said the sustainable development of Chinese economy would offer more opportunities for the two countries to cement cooperation.

Jansa also held talks with Premier Wen Jiabao on Thursday, and several agreements on educational, cultural and scientific cooperation were signed after their talks.

Jansa arrived on Thursday morning for a four-day official visit, his first China tour since he assumed the office of prime minister in 2004.

His visit also coincided with the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two nations.
