AT least 19 people were killed when a fire broke out this morning in a high-rise building in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China News Service reported.
The fire broke out at 8:20am on a 28-story building on Renmin Road in downtown Wenzhou, trapping hundreds of people, the report said.
More than 100 people were rescued and have been sent to hospitals, the report said.
The Wenfu building is a compound of residential departments and commercial stores, the report said.
The fire was said to have started in a flower shop on the first floor and soon spread to an entertainment venue on the second floor, the report cited witnesses as saying.
"I was trapped for more than two hours on the sixth floor and there was smoke everywhere," a woman surnamed Yang told China News Service.
The fire has already been put out and rescue work is ongoing, the report said.
