Ten-year-old Xu Zhongzheng is a fifth-grade pupil in the New Primary School of Dujiangyan City of Chengdu. When the catastrophic May 12 earthquake occurred, Xu and his classmates were all buried under the ruins. He stood out at this critical moment and sang loud the national anthem to encourage others. Thanks to his singing, teachers and classmates found more survivals in the darkness. Thereafter, Xu was honored as the "national excellent youth confronting disasters and earthquake".

Receiving many glories and delivering speeches everywhere made him swelled-headed for a while. But soon he adjusted himself and put up all efforts in studying again. His teacher and mother were all glad with his change. "Zhongzheng was obedient and very considerate before, and now he understands better my hardship." his mother Zhou Qiong said. Xu is now working hard to get in a middle school in Chengdu and become a useful man in the future.
