SEOUL, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping arrived here Wednesday to start the second leg of his four-nation Asia tour.
In a written statement, Xi said China and South Korea were close neighbors and had enjoyed a long-term friendship. The two countries had expanded cooperation in all fields and had established a strategic and cooperative partnership since they forged diplomatic ties 17 years ago. This benefited the peoples of the two countries, and contributed to peace, stability and development in the region, Xi said.
"I will meet friends from all circles, and exchange views with South Korean leaders on bilateral ties and international and regional issues," he said.
During his stay in South Korea, Xi is expected to meet with South Korean President Lee Myung Bak, National Assembly Speaker Kim Hyong-O, and Prime Minister Chung Un Chan.
"I believe my visit will further mutual understanding, trust, and cooperation, and push forward the strategic and cooperative partnership between China and South Korea," Xi said.
Before arriving in South Korea, Xi visited Japan. He will also visit Myanmar and Cambodia.
