BEIJING, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu held talks on Thursday with his Vietnamese counterpart and pledged to enhance law enforcement cooperation between the two countries.
"China and Vietnam are not only friendly socialist neighbors, but also important partners," Meng said during his talks with Tran Dai Quang, Vietnamese Minister of Public Security and a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee.
Consolidating the friendship, unity and cooperation between the two countries is the common wish of, and in the fundamental interests of, the Chinese and the Vietnamese people, Meng said, and "is also conducive to the peace, stability, prosperity and development of the region."
Meng said that cooperation in law enforcement and security constitutes an important part of the bilateral ties between the two nations.
"We hope that the two sides will step up cooperation to both prevent and combat illegal border-crossing, telecommunication fraud, human trafficking, drug crimes, terrorist attacks and other crimes, in order to safeguard the safety and stability of the two nations and the border areas," the Chinese official said.
Quang said the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese government attach great importance to the friendship with China.
The Vietnamese side is willing to further cooperation with China in terms of fighting crime and safeguarding social security in an effort to step up their law enforcement cooperation, Quang added.
