BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhua) -- China said on Friday it supports all diplomatic efforts that help resume stability in west Asia and north Africa, and is ready to work with the international community to promote peace and development in the region.

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks while meeting with Mohamed Seghir Babes, president of the National Economic and Social Council of Algeria.

"China has been deeply concerned over the great changes in the situation in west Asia and north Africa over the past year," Jia said, in reference to turbulent situation in some countries in the region.

China respects and supports countries in the region settling internal affairs independently and respects the aspirations and demands of people for reform and development, he said.

Jia said China hopes parties involved to ease tension through political dialogues and resume stability and normal order at an early date.

"China supports all diplomatic efforts conducive to the resumption of regional stability, and is ready to make concerted efforts with the international community to boost peace, stability and development of west Asia and north Africa," he said.

Hailing the progress of China-Algeria ties over the past years, Jia said China is ready to further cooperation with Algeria in various areas including exchanges between the Economic and Social Council of both countries, to further enrich bilateral strategic cooperative ties.

Babes, in his turn, said Algeria places high value on its relations with China, pledging joint efforts with the country to deepen exchanges and cooperation in various areas.
