Test takers get festive send-off in E China

More than 5,000 students gathered at Maotanchang High School, East China's Anhui province on June 5, 2012, and headed for Lu'an city to take the national college entrance exam, or gaokao. Tens of thousands of teachers and parents from Maotanchang township saw them off at the school.

The school transported the students to Lu'an city, 70 kilometers away, with 52 buses, escorted by four police vehicles. All the students arrived safely at the destination before 3 pm.

The custom of seeing off students to gaokao has grown into a festive event. Every June 5, residents in Maotanchang township gather and see off their children who are taking the national college entrance exam, or gaokao.
