Fugitive banker Gao Shan has returned to China and surrendered himself to the police, 8 years after he fled to Canada, according to a statement posted on the website of the Ministry of Public Security.
Gao Shan, the president of the Bank of China branch on Hesongjie Street in Harbin City, was accused of financial fraud in China. He and several others involved in the case fled to Canada in December, 2004 before financial authorities discovered that almost 300 million yuan (US$47.5 m) had disappeared from the savings account of a company at the Hesongjie branch of Bank of China.
