Two die in separate elevator accidents

Two people were killed in separate elevator accidents in the last two days in south China’ Shenzhen and central China’s Yichang respectively.

A 24-year-old female intern of Shenzhen Pengcheng Hospital was killed in an elevator accident in south China’s Shenzhen on May 15.

The police launched an investigation into the accident.

According to preliminary investigation, the elevator’s door suddenly closed and clamped the victim when she was walking out of the elevator car at the third floor. The victim was killed after the elevator went downwards.

Local safety supervision organ soon launched a sweeping check of other elevators in the building.

Prior to this tragedy, an old woman was crushed to death when a step of an escalator broke abruptly in a Wal-Mart store in Yichang, central China’s Hubei Province on May 14.

The Wal-Mart official said the accident was still in investigation and was willing to cooperate with relevant department.

The brands of the elevator involved in the two accidents were not mentioned in Chinese media report.
