CHANGCHUN, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- A wild Siberian tiger has recently been spotted by local police officers in Hunchun City in northeast China's Jilin Province.

The tiger was sighted by four police officers at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday when they were patrolling a national highway.

"We found the tiger standing on the road ahead of our car and immediately pulled over to take pictures with our phones," said Lang Meng, one of the officers who spotted the big cat.

Lang estimated the tiger to be more than 2 meters long with a strong body.

Hunchun City is located on the China-Russia border and in the core area of the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park, a pilot national park spanning an area of over 1.46 million hectares in the provinces of Jilin and Heilongjiang.

The city has seen an increasing presence of wild Siberian tigers thanks to its strengthened ecological restoration and protection of feline animals in the region. Enditem
