BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese police have dismantled 3,392 crime syndicates in a three-year nationwide campaign targeting organized crime and local tyrants.

Another 10,586 local gangs and criminal groups were busted during the crackdown launched in 2018, according to figures released by the Ministry of Public Security (MPS).

Police nationwide solved a total of 239,000 criminal cases involving organized crime, said the ministry, adding that 104 high-profile cases under the direct oversight of the MPS have been transferred to procuratorates for prosecution.

During the campaign, Chinese police launched a manhunt for 5,824 fugitives suspected of organized crime, 5,768 of whom have been arrested, including 440 brought back from overseas. Enditem
