MACAO, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- One passenger on board a flight from Tokyo tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving in Macao Thursday night, according to the special administrative region government.

The passenger and ten close contacts on the plane had been sent to a public health center in Coloane. The remaining 98 passengers were taken to a hotel for medical observation for 21 days and at least seven additional days of health self-management afterwards, according to the government.

The passengers, first departing from several countries including Portugal and Britain, arrived in Macao in two flights.

The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Center of Macao said earlier this week that the government had made thorough preparations and sound plans for the quarantine and closed-loop management of the passengers to prevent community transmissions of COVID-19. Enditem
