Join us for an introduction of a Western & Tibetan team in Qinghai Province who develop a business around the core raw materials of this high plateau - wool and yak - while desiring to keep the ancient traditions of spinning and weaving alive.
The fibers are hand-combed, hand dyed and hand spun from the yaks and sheep that dwell on the “rooftop of the world”. The existence of these rugged animals serve as the main life source for the nomadic herders across the Plateau as it has since the ancient times.
Ken Shackelford, who started this business with two other men and their wives from Ozark Mountains in Northwest Arkansas, has been using luxury fibers to create yarn, rugs and home accessories for over a decade.
Ken will travel from Qinghai to Beijing to talk to CCC friends their workshops in Yushu and suburb of Xining, lives of the local workers, as well as Qinghai’s customs and culture. Some rugs and home accessories in traditional Chinese, Tibetan and western designs and patterns will be exhibited, including some with Christmas characteristics. Weaving demonstration will be conducted during the talk.
