Miyazaki's composer Joe Hisaishi performs in Beijing

2011-04-27 07:03:08 GMT2011-04-27 15:03:08(Beijing Time)  City Weekend

Joe Hisaishi, the composer behind the soundtrack to Studio Ghibli's popular animated films, is coming to the Forbidden City Concert Hall tomorrow night to play a selection of favorites from the beloved animations. He'll be directing his own compositions—and if it's anything like his other live concerts, he'll be jumping from the front of the orchestra to his grand piano for solo pieces.

The playlist is in English here--and along with perennial favorites like Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service and Totoro (curiously called 龙猫 in Chinese), Hisaishi will include pieces from latest hit Ponyo too. Unfortunately, it looks like he won't play any of his movie hits, like the sublime Summer from Beat Takeshi's Kikujiro.

Tickets are no longer selling online, so you'll either have to go to the Forbidden City Concert Hall to get them or buy from en.piao.com.cn and pick them up from their office near Dongzhimen.
