Every Thursday, the Beijing Weekender distills City Weekend's database of nightlife events down to the weekend parties, concerts and live shows that you simply can't miss.
FRIDAY + SATURDAY
Even though Friday isn't really a holiday for most people, there's still a few things of note. First up is the Nova Heart EP Release at Yugong Yishan, which has a director so it should be awesomely theatrical. Plus, it's supported by CW Reader's Choice Award Nominees Residence A. Also in the rock 'n' roll world, Aussie punk rockers The Backyard Surgeons show off their tour documentary No Anaesthetic at 2 Kolegas, with local punk bands Misandao and SUBS. Then on Saturday, things heat up with a bunch of parties worthy of getting down with. Grandmaster Flash is back in town to light up the stage, so make sure you get your tickets for that soon - who knows if they'll make it to Saturday night. Then the Footprint series brings Deetron to Lantern, in support of his new analog-vs-digital mixtape, Balance 20. And finally, No Go Die presents Zed Bias at Haze, for a night of his no-nonsense, genre-bending sound. Check out our interview with him here.
MAY HOLIDAY, SUN-TUE
In case you missed it, we put up a day planner for those looking at the music festivals this weekend. Check it out here. But if you don't want to traipse around the countryside this May holiday, there's plenty of stuff going down within the fourth ring road. Apart from Strawberry, MIDI and Ditan Folk Festival, there's also MMAX Music Festival, which highlights some of the biggest names in Chinese pop music. Finally, there's an Epic Ningxia Night at 2 Koleags on Monday night, with all your favorites and the proceeds from which will go to offset Ningxia Night regulars Li Dong's album costs. There's also plenty to party about, with the Great Electronic Music Festival. Strawberry After-Parties at Migas and Lantern with DJ sets from both the Strawberry and the Guava stages.
Have a great long weekend, everyone! Don't forget your sunscreen.
