The reigning queen of EDM and founder of the legendary BPitch Control label, Ellen Allien has topped Beijing promoters’ “must book” lists for as long as we remember. After years of whispers, she makes her highly anticipated Beijing debut at Haze on Sat., June 23, a watershed moment in the capital’s dance scene.
“At the moment, I’m listening again to all the vinyls I collected from 1990 through 2010 in order to digitize them,” says Allien, who launched her DJ career in 1988. “I have all the milestones of house music on vinyl! My story as a DJ began with deep house, electro and electronica.”
While mesmerizing on the decks, Allien is equally renowned for her breathtaking productions, from the rich experimental tech of Stadtkind in 2001, to the cool minimalism of Sool in 2008, to a return to warm dance grooves on Dust in 2010. All were released on her own BPitch label, one of EDM’s most respected labels and home to acts like Apparat, Modeselektor and Paul Kalkbrenner.
So what can we expect when the woman behind some of the most stunningly diverse dance music of the past quarter century lands in Beijing? For Allien, the answer is simple: “The future and past of my music collection.”
