BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhuanet)-- British singer Amy Winehouse entered a rehabilitation clinic Thursday as part of her ongoing effort to fight against drug addiction, her record company Universal Music Group said Friday.
"She has come to understand that she requires specialist treatment to continue her ongoing recovery from drug addiction and prepare for her planned appearance at the Grammy Awards. ... Amy entered the facility by mutual agreement and continues to receive the full support of all concerned," said the statement of the group.
Her scheduled appearance at an awards show in France on Saturday was hence canceled.
Winehouse, 24, is perhaps best known for her 2006 hit "Rehab," in which she wrote about her refusal to visit a rehab facility.
A photo taken from a 19-minitue video showing the British singer smoking a crack pipe was released by Britain's best-selling daily tabloid newspaper The Sun on Tuesday.
Hours later, the singer, accompanied by her father, Mitch, and a bodyguard, was seen at the privately run Capio Nightingale Hospital, which is famous for treating celebrities with addiction problems.
Managing editor Graham Dudman of the newspaper claimed that they published the video in a bid to help the addict.
The singer's father had repeatedly accused her husband Blake Fielder-Civil of encouraging her drug addiction.
In October, the couple were arrested at a Norwegian hotel for marijuana possession, and soon afterward fans booed her on stage as she slurred and stumbled her way through her gigs.
Fielder-Civil is currently behind bars in London on charges of perverting the course of justice following a bar fight in East London.
Winehouse showed up at her husband's hearing in London Friday, and blew several kisses at him and shouting, "I love you, handsome, gorgeous one."
