Woody Allen to play clarinet at Montreal jazz festival

BEIJING, March 26(Xinhuanet) -- Renowned U.S. film director and filmmaker Woody Allen is to appear at the Montreal International Jazz Festival for the first time on June 30 with his New Orleans Jazz Band, according to U.S. media reports Wednesday.

Allen, 72, who is said to have skipped the awards ceremony that won him four Oscars for his 1977 film "Annie Hall" to play in a gritty bar with his band.

He has been a clarinetist since the age of 15, occasionally shows off his talent at Manhattan's Cafe Carlyle in New York City.

He toured Europe in 1996 and performed in various places including Venice, Barcelona, Athens, Monte Carlo, Paris and Munich concert halls.

He will play only one clarinet show in what will be his first appearance at the jazz festival.
