Eighteen years after its Chinese mainland release, the film "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" is set to hit the big screen here again, but with a 4K and 3D version this time, according to the film's production company Warner Bros.

Without specifying the re-release date, the announcement along with a poster via the company's official Weibo account came as movie theaters are gradually reopening following an improvement in novel coronavirus epidemic situations in China.

Also known as "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," the 2001 film is the first movie in the popular Harry Potter series that was adapted from the much-loved novels by J.K. Rowling.

The fantasy film started its worldwide release in November 2001 and saw its Chinese mainland premiere in January 2002. It boasts a score of 9.0 out of 10 on Chinese film review platform Douban based on more than 621,000 reviews.

It is widely believed that the Harry Potter novel and movie series has a wide fanbase in China.
