LOS ANGELES, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- The 23rd installment of the epic 007 spy franchise returned atop the North America box office chart over the weekend again, thanks to the word of mouth it has built and the long-lasting appeal of the story.

"Skyfall," which stars Daniel Craig as the famous MI6 agent, James Bond, is projected to take in 11 million U.S. dollars over the Friday-Sunday period, which is enough for the spy piece to reclaim the top place it finished when it debuted five weeks ago. The James Bond movie then spent the following three weeks as No. 2 at box office in the United States and Canada, trailing "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2."

The film, released by Sony/Columbia, has grossed an estimated 261.6 million dollars in ticket sales in North America, continuing its way as the most profitable 007 movie over 50 years of the series' run.

"The Rise of The Guardians," a 3D computer-animated fantasy- adventure feature released by Paramount, moved upward to No. 2 over the weekend, rolling up 10.5 million dollars. The animated film, which is made by DreamWorks Animation, is on track for a 61. 9 million dollars gross during three weeks of business in more than 3,600 locations in North America.

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2," which had dominated the box office as the biggest moneymaker, slipped to No. 3 this weekend, garnering 9.2 million dollars in sales. The latest installment of the vampire-and-werewolf franchise has grossed 268. 7 million dollars over two fortnights.

Rounding out the top 10 most popular films in North America this weekend were "Lincoln"(USD 9.1 million), "Life Of Pi" (USD 8. 3 million), "Playing For Keeps" (premiering at USD 6 million), " Wreck-It Ralph" (USD 4.9 million), "Red Dawn" (USD 4.3 million), " Flight" (USD 3.1 million), and "Killing Them Softly" (USD 2.7 million).
