Country singer JULIANNE HOUGH has been taken to hospital after suffering abdominal pains backstage on U.S. reality show DANCING WITH THE STARS.

Professional dancer Hough was taken to Los Angeles Cedars-Sinai Medical Center following her performance on the programme.

She had been complaining of stomach pains prior to her appearance, but after her dance - with celebrity partner Hannah Montana actor Cody Linley - the pain became unbearable and an ambulance was called to take her to hospital, according to website TMZ.com.

Her representative Cindy Guagenti tells Access Hollywood, "She was experiencing slight stomach pains all day that increased and the doctors thought it was best to have them checked out.”

Contrary to earlier internet reports Hough did not collapse, her spokesperson added.

She isn't the first contestant to be hospitalised after the show; model Brooke Burke was also seen by medics after the show this week (19Oct08) suffering a foot injury and actress Cloris Leachman is having her blood pressure monitored before rehearsals for the contest.
