BEIJING, Nov. 6 -- Chinese pop singer Zang Tianshuo has been detained by the Beijing police on suspicion of helming a criminal gang that involved in a series of malicious gang fights which led to a person's death five years ago in Langfang, a satellite city near Beijing.

The Beijing Times reported on Thursday that Zang was already taken away from his home around the end of this August by plainclothes cops.

The report says Zang was the very boss of the gang who was once recruited in his bar in Beijing. However, one of his gang members blew the whistle on Zang's crimes after the guy was arrested earlier this year.

Zang, a rock singer for his hit song "Friend", is currently being questioned.
