Britney Spears kicked off her 27-city, "Circus"-themed U.S. tour in her home state of Louisiana on Tuesday night in support of her latest CD. It's Spears' first tour in five years.
Brit fans nearly sold out the 19,000-seat New Orleans Arena for what People called a "bump-and-grind performance on a Big Top stage."
The singer's Web site live-blogged the show in words and mostly hazy, purpley-bluey cell-phone photos.
"You can really tell she is having fun!" Tweeted Julie M. on the site. "She looks fierce!!!" britneylive exclaimed, also via Twitter.
The day before Spears' return to the stage, MySpace Celebrity released a short sneak peek of the "Circus" tour showing Spears and her dancers in multiple circus-inspired outfits and routines -- including the mother of two wriggling out of a cage.
So how did she do Tuesday night? "Spears dutifully hit her marks, kept up a robust pace and looked determined and engaged," the New York Daily News says. But "for all [of] Britney's renewed physical prowess, she didn't project much in the way of personality." Ouch.
To see for yourself, you'll have to travel to Columbus, where Spears will play the Schottenstein Center on April 30. The "Circus" tour heads to Europe in June.
