For seasoned WAG watchers there had been plenty of hints.
First of all, Coleen Rooney started using her magazine columns to offer fashion advice to expectant mothers.
Then she started cooing over the stylish maternity dresses worn by pregnant TV presenter Holly Willoughby.
But it was a trip out in a loose fitting satin top that provided the clincher.
Yesterday friends confirmed that yes, indeed, the 22-year-old wife of footballer Wayne is expecting their first child.
What remains to be seen is how far Coleen will exploit the earning potential of her happy news.
Details of her cravings, weight gain and the first kick are expected to pop up in her magazine columns, for which she earns more than £45,000 a month.
And the first picture of Rooney junior could be sold for hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Baby clothes shops will also be watching closely to see what the child is dressed in, so they can prepare for copycat parents desperate to get their hands on a similar wardrobe.
'Wayne and Coleen are both thrilled and really excited about becoming parents,' a friend of the couple told the Mail.
'They don't know if they're having a girl or a boy yet, but they've said they will be delighted with either.
'They've always wanted to start a family together, so this is their dream coming true.'
Wayne, 23, and Coleen had only told close friends and family, and Wayne's Manchester United bosses, about their baby news.
The child is expected in September.
The couple, who are worth an estimated £35million, have made no secret of their wish to have a big family.
Manchester United striker Rooney, who is the eldest of three children, has said he wants three or four.
But Coleen said she would prefer to wait until their first child is born before making plans to have more.
'I'd like a big family, but I think until you've had one child you can't really tell how many you would like,' she has said.
The Rooneys, who met at school, married last summer in a £3million ceremony on the Italian Riviera. Mail Online reported.
