Stockard Channing returns to 'Other Desert Cities'

Stockard Channing plans to return to a Broadway stage for the first time since undergoing arthroscopic surgery on her right knee less than a week ago.

The 67-year-old Tony Award-winning actress says she hopes she can perform her part in "Other Desert Cities" on Friday night despite swelling and pain. Recovery periods after surgery for such injuries are usually at least two weeks.

The Jon Robin Baitz play is about a wealthy, dysfunctional family wrestling with a deep secret. It opened Nov. 3 at the Booth Theatre.

Channing felt her knee collapse backstage after the Nov. 18 show and missed seven performances. She joked: "Blame it on the Manolos."

The play also features Stacy Keach, Judith Light, Thomas Sadoski and Rachel Griffiths in her Broadway debut. It's directed by Joe Mantello.
