Since the shock announcement of Katie Holmes' divorce from Tom Cruise there has been plenty of speculation about what went wrong in their five-year marriage.

But according to a mutual friend of the couple it wasn't that they fell out of love.

In fact Rock Of Ages director Adam Shankman, who worked with Cruise on his film earlier this year, told Ryan Seacrest that the couple 'love each other'.

'They are doing great,' Shankman said when Seacrest asked how the former couple were coping.

'They actually love each other so much and believe in each other, and I love them both and I wish them both well.'

His comments came as Katie continued to adapt to her new life as a single mother to daughter Suri.

The 33-year-old has been keeping her daughter's life low key in the wake of the split, with trips to the park and zoo.

Katie cancelled what would have been her first official public appearance since her split at a gala to stay home with her daughter.

The pair have been spotted taking Suri's first taxi ride and the six-year-old has even sampled a commercial flight, with her mother no longer able to use Cruise's private jet.

Yesterday it was business as usual as Katie took Suri to visit their local coffee shop in New York.

Suri wore a pink skirt and vest with a yellow ribbon in her hair.

After finalising her divorce earlier this month, Katie’s life seems to be going from strength to strength.

She recently landed a role on the Broadway production Dead Accountants, and her romantic comedy Responsible Adults with Chace Crawford is due out later this year.

Katie will also appear next year alongside Jean Reno, Allison Janney, and William Hurt in a yet-to-be-titled Christian Camargo drama, which is a modern retelling of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull.
